    • Abstract:
An essay is presented in which the author reflects on her childhood home in Palestine and the attempt of her parents to banish a thorny plant from the garden. Some plants cultivated by her parents included the figs, pomegranate and lettuce. She recounts that every time her parents uprooted a small caper bush that grew at the edge of their garden, it grew back again. She describes the nostalgia she felt when she visited her parents.
